Demon for Hire - Geist Fiction
Oct. 29th, 2009 01:02 pm'Demon for Hire'. Thats what the little sign he allways set up beside himself on the table said. Nothing more, nothing less. Most people would half-mockingly ask him if he thought he was a demon. He would smile, laugh a little, tell them he was a sin eater and fully aware of his non demonic personage, thank you very much. Then he would go back to reading his newspaper. One time, someone heard his name and saw the sign, put two and two together and didn't say a thing. That made John happy. He didn't really care if people made a big deal about something, but it was the quiet aknowledgements that made it all worth while. No, John wasnt really a demon. Not in that sense of the word.
It was ultimately, a minor distraction that awarded him a punch to the face. Time for daydreaming was over and now it was time to focus. "That first punch is free, sir. Everything else will cost you" He said politely, so the man understood the situation he was in. He tried to shove John aside, which was almost an excersize in futility and got thrown down on the floor for his efforts. John rubbed his knuckles slightly and smiled, just to prove a point and hopefully calm the man down. The man... Markus, his name was, stood back up and started shouting about John just getting it over and done with. "Now sir..." He started to explain. "I wasn't paid to beat you unconsious. I was asked to make sure that you wouldn't leave this room. I asked you politely and you didn't do that, so now i'm going to have to stand here in the doorway. Its nothing personal sir, just doing what i've been paid to. If you just wait until the gentleman in question arrives, there wont be any need for anyone to get violent, will there sir?" He tried to smile in a way that would convince the man to stay put and not try anything funny, but he knew that would never work. It rarely did. Markus started swearing, which he didn't mind so much at all.
He leant back against the door, waiting. He was watching the man he'd been paid to keep here look around the room for a way out. He ran scenarios in his head about each of the things the man might do based on what he was looking at. "I'll tie you up if you try to get out again sir." He said as Markus looked to the window. "And if you think i didn't notice that switchblade in your back pocket for cutting out of ties, then your sorely mistaken. Much easier for you if you just sat down and wait, sir." He noticed that the man was eyeing him up now, and he sighed. Looked like some people just never ever learnt.
