((This is set pre either Aleksander or Aline being Lost, when they were both around 13 or 14 years old))
“You shouldn’t talk to her, her grandfather was a traitor.” Nadya’s heart caught in her chest as the words echoed across to her. Aleksander stood perfectly still for a brief moment as he stared at the other boy and then his expression went dark and the next thing she knew a fight had broken out between the two of them.
Despite Yuri being older and stronger, it still wasn’t too long before Aleksander had pulled the boy down and was pinning him quite effectively. There was a conversation between the two of them too quiet for Nadya to hear and she idly brushed her dark hair out of her eyes as she looked on with worry.
After a few minutes more Aleksander hauled the other boy to his feet and marched him over towards her. Astonished Nadya stared at the two of them standing there, not quite sure what to make of what was going on. “Now, you apologise to her before I decide to break your arm.” Aleksander said, twisting Yuri’s arm for good measure.
Yuri looked up at her with obvious resentment and hatred in his eyes, “I apologise, I should not have said such things. Please forgive me for my rudeness.”
Aleksander nodded, satisfied and let him go. Yuri walked off with a sulky look that seemed to suggest there would be payment to come for his interference later.
“What did you do that for Aleksander? He’s never going to let you be now.” Nadya asked, her voice full of concern more than anything else.
“No one insults you or your family; I will not stand for it.” He responded, his voice still betraying his anger at the incident.
Nadya paused for a moment, astonished, then leaned in and gently kissed his cheek. “Thank you. While I am not sure I appreciate the violence, I do appreciate the sentiment.” She smiled at him then a little shyly and turned to head off.
Behind her Aleksander stood watching, his expression now more the wistful look of a boy left in the grip of the tumultuous emotions of a teenager.
