Rio is fearless.

I don't know how she does it, really. I can't fathom facing the world straight on, no apologies given. She's filled with this defiant joy and energy, and I don't know where she gets it.

Watching her in a room full of People just takes my breath away, leaving me gobsmacked. She has sass, which I could never. She gets in their faces, yells at them, mocks them. But she does it with such cheekiness and good humour that they seem not to notice she's not one of them.

But then, I've always admired Rio. The way she took after both her family and mine all those years, the way that she and Lennie clearly love each other, difficulties or not.

I'm not saying her life is perfect, or that mine is awful. All I'm saying is that she does a lot of good with what she has. And isn't that what really counts?
