Apr. 8th, 2012 10:17 am"Will it annoy your father if I teach you?" Geoff said, with an alarming gleam in his eye which probably meant he'd had an extended conversation with Harper Swann on at least one occasion.
"Almost certainly," Geoff said, and grinned. Epona grinned back at him, while she shuffled her tarot cards.
It hadn't yet occurred to either of them exactly what they had arranged. Geoff was an Mathematician. Epona had left school at fifteen to run away with the circus, and counted on her fingers.
Later, Epona would mutter something about Fate, or her father, being a bitch at times.

"If you were my mate, and came to me pregnant with another man's child, I'd just have killed you," Swordbreaker said.
"Well, my mate was merciful," Solace said.
Swordbreaker's hand was cool when he took her wrist, and steely when he turned it over to show off the old cigarette burns along the inside of her arm.
"No, he wasn't," he said. "He did that instead,"
He didn't say anything more, and neither did he comment when Solace scrubbed at her arm with her shawl to rid herself of the lingering sensation of his hand, rough against her skin.

Ruth was beginning to suspect she'd been Invictus too long. The Carthians just didn't really make sense to her any more. They had been bantering for an extended time, and most of the discussion had turned around whether or not Ed owned a yacht, which was something he was denying vigorously.
Ruth had a yacht. She had several, in fact, and felt no guilt about it whatsoever. She also owned two planes, six cars, and an island.
Not bad for the girl who had arrived in this country as a refugee; for a dirt poor Jewish girl from Berlin.
