[Requiem] Die another day

She knew the truth of the words they spoke, and she knew they weren’t meant to be anything else other than truth. They weren’t designed to scare or comfort, they were cold and hard and truth. She appreciated the truth though now she knew that there was no one out there who she could trust.
Their beasts prowled round her and she left to go and stand and be alone. The fear of the other girl cut her deeper still, being near people caused them pain and suffering and she felt the guilt as it pierced her heart, but even this girl’s beast screamed as Lucy held her hand and her mind screamed to the goddess to help her, and then she disappeared.
Lucy entered the room, the clamour of the beasts around her pressing closer today, tighter, her own milder beast preparing to run, she scanned the room and tried to call Poppy. As it hit voice mail Lucy wanted to scream. She tried not to panic but she may have just got the girl who reminded her so much of herself 2 years ago killed for her path, for her belief in the right she was doing.
As Mikhail prowled round her she prepared to defend herself; her beast was quiet, not dead. She had seen him with Carrie, and the last time she’d seen Carrie, Carrie had said she’d kill her next time; Now Carrie would have to join the queue, and Mikhail stood no chance.
Her guilt was etched on her skin, she’d not saved David and she’d lost Poppy and none of the platitudes that the man who paced around her could say would ease her conscience. Poppy’s friend appeared and before she knew it she was talking to him, she wanted to just know she hadn’t failed again. They talked, she just wanted him to help her find Poppy, he seemed to want to find the angels. Mikhail came and mentioned Poppy was back, hurt, banned from coming outside. Lucy moved to go to her friend... Alexi’s hand rested on her arm and she was made to finish her story before the hand released.
Lucy sat there with her friend’s head on her lap trying to comfort her and her mind raced as beasts began to surround her and the injured girl on the floor, her mind comforted by the one thought.... Tonight we both get to die another day....
