Let fools seek, find despair
Herald Hero's ending
Yet glory's given heir
Hero, Soldier, Husband
Crowned brow, ruler fair,
Name him righteous ruler
Hertfordshire was his care,
War-Thing of summer's Thane.

Lorica, War leader.
Peerless, fearless war-born
Red handed foe-reaver
Strong armed, clean limbed, mighty
Loyalists life ender
A Blood-flower-builder
Blade-sworn body render
Knight of the killing field.

Lorica, Golden limbed.
Shining, valour's banner.
Grace was gifted in him
Balur's brightest brother.
Gilded glimmer undimmed
Hansom mien, face fair formed
Beauty in him brimmed.
Light, lovely, lived in him.

Lorica, wise legate.
He reigned, monarch, ruling
Summer's success credit
Prospered with his people
Strong Freehold, Foes fear it.
Proverbial in patience
Doubter's word discredits
Mighty was this monarch

What deeds were, mighty, done
By Hertford Hero king?
Ruler, who shone like sun,
Found freehold for foe's foil
A shield from Them he spun
Endless city's evil
Traitor's treaty to shun
stood firm and war he won

War had he, far from home
East saxon sea's reaving
War-willing he went to roam
Foe-man, found unending
Gave scarlet blood sea foam.
Shot and shell and slaugher
Swift spear, standard of Rome
Charging, carried the day.

Soft velvet wrapped in steel.
Beauty he went a-wooing
Gold binding gladly kneeled
Caught lady and captured love,
Peace and pleasure to steal
Virtue and love's valour
Stood proud before church peal
Betrothed battle brother

Despised dead, gift to crows
Blade-brother's bastion.
Fought free fae's fiercest foes.
Other's servants he slew
Terror in traitors sowed
Shattered shields and slaughtered
Loyal legions laid low
Courageous champion.

Death comes, dauntless to all.
Meek and mighty alike
Soldiers hear courage's call
Leave this life for glory
Timid hearts like tears fall
Unseen, shaming, useless
Undaunted dead stand tall
Stories sung forever more

Many mighty foe-men
Against a king were stood.
War-sworn, hero knew then
His life, his love, was done.
Ferocious, never feared them
His sworn allies he shielded
Forbidding foes again
From his friend's lives, foul sought.

Dauntless, his end drew nigh
Still, he stood unflinching
While the weaker fled by
Hurt took, wounds gave, warding
Well-formed warband he tied
Let brave men bear witness
How a hero should die
Resounding death recall.

Lorica lightbringer!
All men shall give you glory!
Hero, humbles singers
Soldiers shall strive to meet
We honour foe-hewer
Recall ruling wise-lord
Glory to ring giver
His name ever recalled.

As someone who knows the pain of epic meters, I am in awe.
