Otto Mattik, Ashen Legate. He wears his black heart on his sleeve, spitting bile and fury. He gives his trust hard and holds his forgiveness in an iron fist. He is fear and oil and the cold hard mind of machine, bent on survival at any cost.

He is loyal to his friends and fears to let us down. He will stand against whatever perils come against us; he will strive until his last breath to protect us; he will fight until he falls down, his body broken and his fuel spent. I have seen him bleed to save the life of a cat.

Valentine Lake, Onyx Legate. Cool, detached; callous even. He is an... intellectual, always twisting words. He holds his secrets close, shares little of what he knows.

He fought for us in the Skein, seeks order and speaks wisdom. He seeks out our enemies and... neutralises them. I hear he's going to be in a film; hopefully no horses will be harmed.

Felix, Emerald Legate. Hedonist and... hedonist.

He works for us in the markets; his Motley are among our strongest warriors.

Maggie, Crimson Legate. Hard, unrelenting, merciless.

Our hunter. Our avenger. Our protector.

My heart. I could go on; and on.

We few, we happy few; we band of... siblings. We are the Stalwart Guardians, and we are not always what we seem.
