She screwed the lid back on the jar with a sigh. Freddie stared at her flatly, cocking his head.
"I don't really like worms, you know," she told him for the hundredth time as she left the kitchen to change the record. Freddie followed, of course.
Kate sat in her most comfortable chair, slinging her leg over its arm, and Freddie perched nearby. They both tapped their feet to the music as Kate talked.
"I can't decide whether to be mad at Georgie or not. I mean, Flynn did say she killed him. But is it my business? I don't think she knew about the two of us."
She stopped her foot from bouncing and turned more squarely at Freddie. "Don't give me that look. I know there's no 'two of us' really, but there is something. Chemistry, kismet...Anyway, I just mean I'm not sure whether I should be mad at her or not. Do I have any business being mad at her? And what about Senjan?"
She took a breath and continued, on a roll. "And for that matter, I could be mad at lots of people if I want! Nobody even said anything about the play at all! I had to ask Nicki what she thought! Not one person said anything! I got more compliments about Tinkerbell, which wasn't even a challenging role! Maybe I shouldn't act anymore."
The Torch interrupted then, as it was wont to do. Kate frowned, becoming exasperated as her Geist. "Yes, okay. I guess just because none of them care doesn't mean I shouldn't continue in theatre. Fine."
Freddie made an encouraging noise, coming over to rub his head affectionately against her. Kate smiled and chucked him under the chin. "Oh, Freddie. You're a great listener. I feel better."
Freddie, in response, gave a satisfied coo and flew away out the open window. Kate shook her head and then, like the pet pigeon who'd just left the room, forgot about her problems.
