China arrived home and went about her normal activities - unpacking clothes into the wash basket; putting on the kettle and flicking on the TV. She needed time to assimilate what the weekend had brought from the joy of seeing Scarlet (and getting his blessing on her relationship with Arthur) to the deep sorrow of Mac shooting herself. Nyght had responded to her text and was apparently finding comfort with someone else; which meant she had time to break down now.
She looked at her phone. Mails from colleagues; a mail from a patient canceling their appointment; and several random adverts.
And then the mail from Breeds. China stared at it; and nearly dropped her phone as it bleeped with a text message.
She read it and sighed.
"Bloody blasted Breeds..." she swore. She sent a swift text to Arthur; grabbed her handbag and her keys and sped out into the night.
She arrived on Saffron's doorstep with a bag of shopping - tissues, wine, ice cream - and a gentle smile. She dumped the shopping and enveloped Saffron in a hug.
One day she'd break down over Mac and Scarlet. But not right now. Right now Saffron needed her more.
