Between patrols, Jay paused for a half-hour, and caught his breath and a bite to eat. The pub wasn't doing well, financially, but it was serving it's purpose - being there, and allowing him to keep tabs on the locals, as well providing a home (if needed) & base of operations to the pack. His other business was lucrative as ever, and kept the money flowing.

Ben was back. Despite all the other business that was going on, Jay still couldn't get that single thought out of his head, nor progress past it really either. There was a singular clarity of focus that came from leaping from fire-escape to ledge, chasing down a rat-host, or that first tingle of danger as his fur hackled when he crossed the Gauntlet, but after all that... Ben was back.

His pack was wonderful. He was so proud of how they worked, both together and individually, and hoped he could keep them together for as long as possible - it's never good when family breaks up, and the newcomers had become family indeed. Jay's mind side-tracked, as it often did it it wandered, and he made a mental note to plan something to deal with the Xenophon problem, and then the train of thought went back to the pack. Kaer was a phenomenon. He could find things out, he was motivated, he was competent, and he got things done. Momentarily, Jay pondered again if and how he should get involved in the Isi problem, and just as quickly shunted it aside - that could wait. Janesca was solid as ever, Xenophon was a conundrum but dependable, and got things done. Templeton was as much a godsend as Kaer, but in different ways - he saw what needed to be done, arranged it, was happy to jump in and get things done himself too. Harmony...

Not really noticing the steak she'd prepared for him as he ate it, Jay relaxed, let his shoulders slump and leaned back into his chair. Harmony had been so happy that Ben had come back. And she was pregnant, and happy - something about that broke Jay's heart but he wasn't exactly sure what that was, or why. A tear was quickly wiped away, and another mouthful of meat was downed. Jay had resolved a long time ago that if anything ever happened to Harmony, nothing would stop him wreaking a terrible revenge on those responsible - not Luna, not her Oath, not any werewolf or any force of nature - thankfully, Harm had proven damned resilient and he was so proud of her for it. Harmony got things done. And she was happy that Ben was back.

So why did that thought settle like a lump of glacial ice in his gut any time he had a spare moment to ruminate?

Jay finished his lunch and headed back out. Time to go back to work. Kay was on her way over, and Janesca & Templeton were already waiting for the latest map updates...
