It's not very good, and I have others I wanted to do more, but its the one that got finished first. This happened at the National on the Friday night, apparently missed by 90% of the people
Lucy sat and slipped the headphones into her ears, god knows what Luc was playing but it wasn’t her, and the wedding dress not practical for carrying her phone but she was damned if she was leaving that behind. She took what passed for a deep breath as the music began to soothe her last nerve and then she heard it, the voice, the sirens song, calling her to him, she knew him so well now she couldn’t mistake him. Her feet seemed to move almost against her will as she pressed the speed dial for El.
“El, he’s calling me and I have to go to him, I don’t know where I’m going” She wanted to panic and scream and let people know, but she needed to stay calm and trust El would do the rest. She opened the door into the temple and stepped through closing it tight behind her.
Walking across the temple she opened the next door into the darkness of the empty warehouse. She felt the call and continued to move towards it, the stairs in front of her, her bare feet on the bare stone. 1 step, she was going to end up alone, 2 steps, this was not a good place to be, 3 steps, how would they find her, 4 steps, the darkness seemed to be growing, 5, 6 7 steps, there was something to be said for the cinematic feel of the wedding dress and being a maiden and things, 8 steps, stupid tangent, focus, 9 steps, you know him as well as anyone, 10 steps, remember what you’ve read, be her, 11 steps and she heard her voice call out into the dark
“What do you want with me Robert?”
12 steps
“I want to talk to you”
13 steps, was the floor moving?
She stepped onto the floor and felt the snakes writhe over her bare feet. She could hear the sound of footsteps behind her, Please be El, or Evan, or anyone I can trust, her feet stepping carefully trying to find the gaps in the snakes.
“I’m here, Talk” She stood a little straighter, her voice seemed to carry differently, the way she moved was not her own, she had to fool him. More footfalls behind her. As she approached the figure with the spears in his body and neck she risked a glance round, Evan, Leviticus, she had never been so glad to see them.
“Who are they?” He called out his temper beginning to prickle
“It doesn’t matter you have my attention now talk”
“You are dead”
“Obviously you failed, obviously I am more powerful than you can have ever thought possible, you know what you did” there were others closer to her, she didn’t recognise 1 of them, but 2 of them she had met before that night
“It can’t be” He began to twitch “You must teach me” he spat the words at her and she could feel her resolve weakening
“Ok I will teach you”
“you must do the same to me as I have to you, you must grant me this wisdom, your wisdom, your power, give it to me too” she could see the obsession in his eyes. He truly was crazy, but he was also powerful and that was a bad mix.
“You must trust me” she stepped towards him as others around her began to tense with the possibility of how badly wrong it could go “That means you need to drop all your magics”
“Why?” his voice crept over her skin as she moved closer
“Because unless you do I won’t show you my wisdom or my power I won’t share the knowledge with you”
He nodded and she wanted to breathe a sigh of relief but didn’t dare give up her charade. She glanced at Evan who gave her a brief nod watching with Leviticus at his left hand side. She looked round and asked those she didn’t know to leave. Some refused some were grateful for the chance to leave.
“Why are they leaving” He cried out as the crone and the gentleman who had also been summoned turned to leave “They have to stay, to see, to learn the way of gaining the power”
“No” She spoke, she was damned if more than necessary would witness what she may have to do if it went wrong “I will teach them later, you have my word”
He nodded again, people left, she moved close to him and grabbing the spear by the metal point she pulled it from his neck, blood began to flow, she pulled him into an embrace and turning the wooden part towards his heart plunged it into his chest, or would have done if her hand could have gripped it tighter, but the blood on it made it slip between her fingers.
“What are you doing” he called out and she could feel her control on him disappearing, and with that the chance of people dying became more apparent. She couldn’t fail them now, not if he’d kill them.
“You must trust me, if you don’t trust me it won’t work, I trusted you” another lie, she could feel a shift in his skin, like something moving. He nodded again, this time she’d have to pretend to be doing as he asked, she sank her teeth into his neck and began to drink. She struggled to grip the wooden shaft of the spear and again failed to get it to go into his chest she could feel his skin turning scaley against hers, shit she thought, I have to do this, or he’ll just lose it. Closing her eyes tightly she prepared another strike as she felt the hand on hers. Not releasing her bite she looked up to see Leviticus guiding her hand, adding his strength to hers. As the stake hit home he crumpled to the ground, forced into sleep, partially changed. She looked down and her mind thought gorgon. The rest past into a blur as what she had done came to her mind in waves overwhelming her. What would she have done, what was she willing to do. All the questions started to cascade and as she walked back into the party, blood covering the front of the white dress she felt older somehow.
