Waiting

Marcus sat in the growing darkness of his study, the one tiny lamp in the corner of the room throwing shadows around the room. He liked the darkness, the half light in which he lived his life now. He stood from his high backed chair and walked to the pile of books that he had been working on, he moved the lamp so that the light fell on the damaged spine of the book and started to work fixing it.

It was terrible what some people did to books, he thought to himself, they just didn't deserve to own them.

His task finished he turned to the bookshelf where the other books lived, amongst the first editions and rare volumes was one book that looked out of place. For a start it was new, and for another it was actually bought legally every other book was someone else's. He had taken them from their houses while they slept because they deserved to lose things, and while he had sworn to summer he wasn't insane enough to take their lives.

He picked up the book that seemed out of place, and turned it over looking once again at the Author's picture the name on the book was Astrid Jefferson.

"Mneme" he whispered
