A mini-adventure for Aria.
Mar. 26th, 2008 10:38 amThe Thai restaurant, of course, was thronged with people. She wondered, briefly, whatever had possessed her to suggest this as a deal with Barnabas. Even if he had seemed highly amused at the thought, and agreed rather quicker than she had expected, she was beginning to regret being quite so hasty.
That seemed to be the story of her life. Hasty decisions, regretted at leisure. A positive beacon of not looking before leaping out into an abyss.
"Wouldn’t have it any other way..." She thought to herself, as she stood and grabbed the microphone. She fought against the wave of nausea as the music started and the words started to scroll for her to sing.
Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup
They slither wildly as they slip away
Across the universe
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind
Possessing and caressing me
She laid on heart, and soul, and Glamour onto her singing, her more limited natural talent augmented to the point she didn’t feel she was quite so in danger of horrendously embarrassing herself. The song eventually came to an end, and she gave her dedication as agreed, ignoring the more rowdy calls for another song. She wondered if the audience would have been quite so keen on Bowie had she not prompted them.
"How in the hell does Aline do this time after time?" She pondered, as she left the stage, a little unsteadily. The crowd of diners, gently prodded by song and skill and a little hint of fae-magic to join in, to sing their own songs, unknowingly upholding her bargain with Barnabas, while she slipped quietly out of the restaurant, bill settled in more ways than one.
She hoped no-one there had used a camera.
She looked at a short list as she walked out to her car, crossing the top name from it. Twice a week for a month. Seven more songs to go. At least, she thought, she would not run out of Bowie to sing, and after all this, she still rather hoped she’d never have to make use of what she’d bought with her voice.
