What just happened?
Oct. 12th, 2009 09:53 amScreaming, shouting; the hot-metal blast of fresh blood on the air; Steampunk, his protective embrace turning to a deadly, shredding storm; Rex Black, his shadow spreading over the room, driving Mort into a shameful panic.
From chaos into confusion: blades glittering, the air heavy with tenson. Aria is screaming in defiance and every excuse stokes Mort's fury higher; rage at her for thinking she could end something like this well, and rage at himself for being persuaded to believe in her. Dominic accuses, Aidan defends; all automatic, all instinct; no clarity for Mort to seize hold of.
Mort's body is trembling, but his hand is still where it holds tight to Trouble's grip. He watches Dominic-ra, ready to act on a word, a sign, a show of threat, but there is none; the air is thick with fury, and no spark to turn that rage into action. Mort can feel his own anger building, but it is not like the battle. Then they were all together; there was a plan and a foe and a part to play. Every death was a crime against all the souls of the Lost, but that was the Gentry's crime. That was war, and there is murder in the air here.
Soon, he knows, there will be nothing to hold him back. He is becoming what he most despises: A creature of undirected fury. A beast fit only for extermination.
He turns away, trying to think; not his forte at the best of times. Why did this start? Because of Steampunk? Or not Steampunk; if Aria is a traitor then Steampunk would have been issuing a punishment and he'd have had to bear that himself. The confusion is good; it banks the fire of his rage.
He looks aside, trying to spot Rosie in the crowd, and sees that she has gone. He aches for the thought of her pain, feeling the pain in a part of his heart he had long thought numb. The pain is good; it puts and edge on the blunt force of his anger.
Mort hunkers down and digs in his heels. There is nothing he can do right now, but sooner or later, someone might need him, and he would be here when that happened.

Date: 2009-10-12 09:30 am (UTC)Yeah; Rosie was more or less guaranteed to impact on Mort at that stage, given his Papa Bear issues.
