In I explore what if Dey had never drunk that spring drink, and ended up with Zenica across her lap ...

Dey sniffed the bright orange liquid and then gingerly tasted a drop. She wrinkled her nose as she concentrated.

“Goblin fruits, it’s a mixture. I think that if you combine this lot it will probably lower inhibitions. And make people kinda exuberant. Bit like alcohol can be; but stronger.”

She carefully stoppered it and handed it back to Carin. “Wouldn’t suggest anyone drank it. They may do things they’d regret.”

Carin took it and nodded. Dey went back into the room, and sat down by herself. Smoke eventually joined her, as did Zenica. When Zenica sprawled across Dey to hug Smoke, Dey politely excused herself and moved so that they could sit next to each other, and then left the area when Cai arrived.

“Carin and I are getting married.” Aria looked at Dey with a slightly worried expression.

“Congratulations” came a polite reply. Dey then excused herself, and went for a run, ending up near an abandoned building. If Aria noticed the bleeding knuckles when she came back, she was polite enough not to say anything.

“I’m not renewing it. I can’t,” Dey didn’t look at Aria. “I’ll make your cake for your wedding, and I’ll be your bridesmaid, but then I’m leaving.” She shrugged when Aria asked her where she was going to go. “No idea. I’ll find somewhere quiet and out of the way. Don’t worry about me.”

”There’s a witch in the woods. No seriously. You go down this path, and then there’s a wibbly bit, and I swear I saw a house in this clearing that looked like it was made of gingerbread, and this garden full of weird flowers. And there’s this woman, and she’s got cats,, and she gave me the most amazing cake, and told me to come back with my friends. Honest. Come and see, or are you a scaredy cat?”

“And our headlines tonight. Police are baffled by the disappearance of three children who went into local woods to play, and have apparently vanished off the face of the earth. Hannah Bell, her brother William and their friend Julia Longmore left to play in Chestnut Park on Sunday morning, and haven’t been seen since. Police are still appealing for any witnesses, and this morning the families held a press conference asking for help. We now go to our correspondent on the scene, Irene Malloy, with the latest updates…”
