One might think it odd that a holy avenger should frown on a religious killing; another might think it natural that one touched by the Angel of Death would seek to punish some heathen sacrifice. In truth, both would be wrong.
I do not kill at the orders of my Angel; I am not God's warrior. My part is to punish the guilty and bring death to those who do not deserve life. Kyle Ryder killed to permit a Geist to Bond with a dying man and bring about the end of the world. To kill in the service of an apocalypse is unclean death in my book, and unclean deaths need to be... laundered.
I'd not killed since the Binding; it felt different. It wasn't any easier, but it felt more natural; more right. The Channel, the Angel, shows me that this is my purpose. It guides me, shows me how to strike past Mr Donnelly and bring Ryder to a rough kind of justice.
Later, Pete and I clash; I can sense our aspects weighing against one another as we talk. The Saint of the Streets argues for Chapman's rehabilitation; the Angel howls for his blood. In the end, it is the blood on his hands that speaks against him. It marks him as mine, not Pete's. He protects the innocent with a tireless hand, but the guilty belong to me, to be given to the Angel.
This time, I use the sword.
I am Solomon Crane, I am the Angel of Death; but I am glad that my brother and my sisters are there to show another way.
