Sergeant Decker's girlfriend
Apr. 20th, 2012 02:08 pm“Oh, did you hear about Sergeant Decker?”
“No? What’s he done now? I never like to ask with him. Not since...well...you know...”
“Yeah. I know.”
“And he seems to be even more on edge lately. Maybe it’s his love life?”
“Jesus, I hope it isn’t. From the look of the girl who walked into today – and that’s what I was about to tell you – it bloody well shouldn’t be what’s getting him twice as aggro!”
“Decker has a girlfriend?”
“Don’t look so surprised. He’s had girlfriends before,”
“Yeah, and didn’t he hand her over to internal affairs?”
“OK, fair point. Anyway, I think there might be someone new. Fuck knows how he met her. She’s gorgeous. I mean, model hot. Tall, amazing body, walks like she owns the place. Comes into the station and goes straight up to the desk clerk.
“‘Does Arthur Decker work here?’ she says, so we know this isn’t work. Who the fuck calls Decker ‘Arthur’ anyway? No one I know. So the desk clerk says ‘yes’, and she pulls out this letter. And this is not anyone’s forgotten phone bill. This is posh paper, smelling of something, with his name written in bloody copperplate writing like it’s a letter from the queen. It’s even been sealed in bloody wax, I tell you.
“And she says ‘can I leave this here for him? Please don’t open it. It’s very personal’, and the desk clerk is doing his best to stop drooling, which is when I walk over and say I’ll take care of it and can I tell him who left this letter. She tells me, and leaves,”
“And that’s it? That’s your big ‘Decker has a girlfriend’ reveal?”
“No. That’s the start. The next bit is Decker’s response when I tell him that Solace Gascoyne-Cecil dropped off a letter for him, and the desk sergeant wants to know if she’s single...”
