A moment of peace
Aug. 30th, 2011 01:28 pmCody sat at the edge of the lake watching the wind ripple the water. He often came here to think, or as he once put it to John "To get away from all you noisy bastards for a bit." They always ended up following him out here anyway but for a while he would be able to put his thoughts together.
The most part of the pack was setting off to Essex tomorrow to help fellow Uratha, he had tried to convince John to stay behind and guard the territoy, but tomorrow would see if he had been convincing enough. It wasn't that John couldn't fight he was handy enough but his girl was pregnant and Cody didn't want him getting himself killed before getting to know his kid.
Cody was already prepped for the battle, everything ready to go nothing left to do but wait. It reminded him of something Churchill had said back in Russia when they first met.
"The thing you have to remember about War Cody, the only thing is that it's 90% boredom and 10% pure bloody terror. You'll spend a lot of time waiting around for something to happen so always take some tea with you."
Cody grinned at the thought of his old friend and let his thoughts move back to the present and the fight ahead of him, Bale hounds, one of the couple of dangers that could cause the Pure and the Forsaken to put aside their squabbles and work together. He'd faced them before and according to his father they had been responsible for the death of his mother, who he only knew from photographs and the recollections of his father. So this was a fight where he knew he was in the right sure in the purity of his actions.
In the distance he could hear Jack shouting from the direction of his house with one last look towards the lake he turned and started to walk back, towards whatever the next day brought.
