Monkeys are very lucky people, she thought happily to herself as she skittered about the treehouse tossing books into slightly precarious towers which she eyed warily for a moment before moving on. The house was never what one would call tidy, it was never dirty, not by any means as monkeys would not abide a dirty home for long, but it was not tidy. It was full of script books, blankets and cushions piled happily around and now being fastidiously replaced in this frenzied effort at tidying, odds and ends she’d picked up along the lines and placed with great care in Safe Places. Safe Places were very special, and reserved for particularly shiny things, unfortunately they did tend to be so safe that they proved difficult to find at times and occasionally appeared to be a seat to the uninformed.
She shook her head grinning as she remembered the time when Kit had mistaken a Safe Place for a seat, admittedly it did look a lot like a seat but if it were it would hardly have been housing her favoured pointy rock, now would it? Nope nope. It was obviously a Safe Place for Shiny Thing storing. On occasion she’d been known to stumble over a Shiny Thing that had somehow gotten out of its correct place, but that was most likely just an indication that the thing needed more attention. And quite possibly needed to be carefully placed somewhere for Kit to find.
The treehouse was in this state of highly organised chaos because of the promise of visitors. It was only right and good that one should tidy a house, even if it was obviously perfect already due to being the abode of a monkey, if there were visitors coming. She stopped for a moment, frowning in disappointment; Rosalba never had gotten around to visiting and was now off on a Great Quest. But she will come back and be very happy, then visits will be good indeed, she thought to herself, nodding at the wisdom of it all and grinning as she thought about the no doubt wonderful welcome home party she would arrange when Rosalba did come back.
It was a pity a friend had to go away for a while, but monkeys know these things happen and look on the bright side. After all she’d come back one day and in there were still so many great people around. She moved into the kitchen and started going through the pantry carefully checking on supplies, noting down the severe need for more tea as she was down to her last two boxes of three varieties and that just wouldn’t do. She clucked her tongue at this, shaking her head a bit before bouncing happily, people would be about soon!
Saffron was coming by to talk about things, she wasn’t sure what and no doubt wouldn’t be entirely sure what it was after for some time but that was the way of it. She was very nice, friendly and springy, was always good to have her over. And with Saffron would come Kit, as that was often the way of it, and that would be brilliant. He was rather worried, but then he tended to be worried, at the moment it was about Monarch-ing. She wasn’t entirely sure why but then perhaps spirit foxes weren’t used to Monarch-ing. Liam didn’t take well to Monarch-ing either, perhaps he’s a spirit fox too? She shook her head with a grin, that couldn’t be the case, she’d have noticed such a trick.
Liam was quite a shiny person; he was worrying at times but still quite nice. She determined that she must get Broun to talk with him at some point, both were very nice and Broun was always so cheerful and relaxed, something that Liam could learn from. She grinned widely, she always knew her little brother Broun was wise and this serenity was obviously how bears show wisdom. It was all working out quite well; friends were working together, the Freehold was settling down and, most importantly, the supplies of chocolate coated peanuts was at full capacity. Those were needed for bribing the hedge-monkeys, and one can never overlook the importance of keeping hedge-monkeys happy.
She stopped for a moment in her contemplation and peered around the house, sniffing it judgingly before bouncing happily. It was perfect. Snaggle wouldn’t notice, because her house was always some variety of perfect, but it was the point of the matter. Important guests need things to be tidied and good. Monkeys are very lucky and get to have fun people visit, it’s only right that they should tidy lest the universe decide to attempt to rescind the luck. It’s a give and take relationship, she decided as she carefully placed the last book on the leaning tower.
