OOC: I think this is late for the challenge it was written for, but nevermind I am going to do it anyway :) I should try and write more, things have just been a bit crazy of late and I have struggled to get the right headspace for writing. With any luck I can turn that around some.

My dear Karei,

I wanted to congratulate you on your engagement. I honestly do hope that the two of you are very happy together and that you will have a long life to share with each other.

But there is a lot more I want to say to you besides that. Believe me when I say this it is meant from the bottom of my heart, but you are the most beautiful person that I have ever met. By that I am not talking about your physical looks, in many ways your beauty is the least of your qualities.

You are the kindest, more graceful and amazing person I have ever known. I am not sure I have the words for exactly what I mean. Ever since I met you I was struck by the inner glow you have, your strength and compassion are unrivalled and no matter what happens I will always be grateful to have been your friend.

There are many things I have wanted to say to you for a long time but I never have. There are parts of my life that I am uncomfortable about sharing and so I never have. So I trying to put into words here. I love you, I have done so for a long time now and I know that it's not something that is ever going to be reciprocated and I do not expect anything from you in response. I guess I just wanted to say it instead of leaving it hidden inside me.

All I really want is to know that you will be happy so I do wish that it will be so. You deserve all the good things that life can give someone and I hope you get all of them.

Lynne put the pen down and stared at the words she had written for a moment before sighing and folding the letter and carefully putting it away in a drawer. She was never going to send it, she didn't have the courage and she didn't want to risk Karei looking at her in a different way. Some friendships were more important than the truth and this truth was one better kept to herself.

She smiled wryly and picked her pen back up, time to right a more conventional congratulations message.
