Snowflake fretted. Damn, how could she tell Eli this?

She had come so close to saying at New Year but something had held her back. Fear, most likely.

It wasn’t something you dropped casually into conversation. Particularly when you’re married to an Elemental North Courtier…

But … she’d never wanted anything so badly.

The Shadowsoul leaned back against the entrance to Mary King’s Close and thought. And thought. And thought some more.

Nope. No matter how she considered this, there was no easy way to say.

A few days later, she got her chance. He’d been so wonderful. There had been a cracked window in the kitchen. She’d come through to the lounge, complaining of the cold and he’d offered to have a look. And then he’d gone and made a new window!

It was then that she found her courage.

She’d told him that she felt useless because all she could do was scare people. Eli, her darling Eli, had reassured her so amazingly. She didn’t deserve his praise. “That’s not true, you are a wonderful wife” he told her.

She told him then that she wanted a baby.

To her joy, he agreed that they could try. He didn’t know if it would be possible, but they’d try.
