Seasons Greetings

Hi all

So, it's December and Hanukkah starts tonight at sundown, which means that the holiday season is well and truly upon us. And that means I'm feeling seasonal. So, I thought I'd post this up here and see if people want to get involved.

I thought it might be fun to do a little [community profile] writing_shadows version of Yuletide Treasure. The point of Yuletide Treasure is that a bunch of people sign up to write fics (at least 1000 words in length) for other people in the challenge, about specific requested fandoms etc. Obviously, we're not going to do that, but I thought it might be nice if we did see if we could write a fic for someone else over December.

The idea I had is that if anyone would like a fic for Christmas, they post in the comments here, mentioning any specific interests they have, such as which venue, which character (s), and maybe which theme. For example, I could say:

Hi! I'd really like it if someone wrote a fic about Venice and Rosalba, including a WWE cage match, and with a Christmassy theme.

And anyone who is interested can just reply and say "I'll do that,"

Ideally, I'd like it if anyone who requests a fic also commits to write one, and anyone who writes a fic also requests one. If you want to write more than one, you can request more than one. If you do see one request which you really want to do, but already has someone writing it, you can volunteer and that lucky person can get two stories written for them, but I'd like it if we all tried to make sure that no one goes without a fic if they ask for one.

The only rules are that they need to be at least 1000 words in length and contain any characters/themes requested by the person who you are writing it for.

I know this is in addition to the December writing challenge, but I know you guys all have time on your hands. Plus, this is the perfect opportunity for those of you who were thinking 'I wish I could get Sally a Christmas present, but I have no idea what' to give me something which will really make me happy.

Are people interested?

EDIT - as a random suggestion, because there's been lots of doom in the IoD lately, I reckon it would be nice to make the default in these stories positive (about the characters mentioned anyway), unless someone requests a tale of hate and bitterness. I am fairly sure most of you totally will, but I figured it was worth mentioning.

I am very tempted to do the something that shows what one of my characters thinks about one of yours that you don't know.

[identity profile] faerierhona.livejournal.com 2010-12-02 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
do it!

Go on Juliet. And then post a request! :)

I've been trying to think of one I could do for one of Rhona's but I really don't know any of her characters IC well enough to do 1000 words, and though New Years is a really big deal for Darcy, that wouldn't really feel like a Christmas gift to Rhona, as, once again, we don't really interact in Requiem.

We need more requests on this page though. I'm in a writing mood. Allison's one made me all sombre.

BTW, I am ignoring the 1000 words, I don't do word counts, the story is as long as it is

Am generally feeling a bit down about games in general at the moment.

Would love to see fic on any of the following:

*Something about Winter, for Changeling. Not Christmas, so much, as Winter. I <3 Winter.

*Anything involving any of my characters I guess - am not having a great time with them at the moment, barring a couple of exceptions, and need to get back into the spirit.

*Something about _your character's_ attitude to or experiences with the Pure in Forsaken - I don't know this Venue terribly well yet - but I'm thinking of bringing in an ex-Pure (trainwreck waiting to happen, I know) and I want to soak up the atmosphere a little.

I'm not writing tiny snippets, but my first one was 412 words - and got the most comments for being liked!

My second was 826 (I am amused it was almost exactly double, I am only now doing word counts)

My third 1245, so as much as 1 and 2 added together, almost exactly.

If we're being asked to do a specific word count I will back out now, I am afraid. I just write what's relevant, I'm not keen on being told how long it must be

Oooh, I have someone who fought in WWII. I shall try to write something tomorrow.

I'll have a go at that yes.

Right, WWII fic posted. I apologise that it is dreadful, but it is something.

Seeing as I have now already written two, I guess I should put up some requests myself...but that requires being creative. A paradox, I know.

Right, what I'd like to see:

* What if one of your characters got romantically involved with someone else than they're currently involved with/got involved with someone if they're not involved?

* If one of your characters got the chance to spend a year with someone very close to them, who they already knew was dead/had died in front of their very eyes, how would they spend that time?
(Yeah, I know, I stole that one from the Hyperion Cantos.)

I have just put on my effort so here is a couple of ideas.

* The spirit of Christmas from the perspective of someone who isn't a Christian and doesn't celebrate it in the traditional way.

* WWE style lumberjack match. PC's on the inside and out. This is more about the banter and interaction than the arse kicking.

We can't have you feeling down! I'll try to do something tonight!

Aww *how* many people have asked to see Moorcroft and Rex in a public matchup? I couldn't write that, but someone totally should.

I'll have a think if there's something I can do for the first one though...

I'll do the Pure one sometime this week. I might be able to do the Winter one too.

Thank you - you're all lovely. x

WWE Style match/thing/commentry/sort of thing. It was about the closest I could come up with. Enjoy!
