Baldwin surveyed the lands of Darlington from atop a nearby hill; he could see the soft glow of lit torches and burning hearths as he scanned the land. His eyes finally resting on the spire of St Cuthbert’s Church in the centre of Darlington, he forced vitae into his eyes and smiled as the Churches detail came into focus.
“This will be the place for my court.” He thought to himself. “This will be the place the other Cainites will come to; this will be the place where we make our first plans and our first strategies. I will be first…”
His eyes strayed to the lands surrounding the Church, a graveyard, a marketplace…The church was in the centre of town, those foul Gangrel of Lord Ivan’s rotten little band had better behave themselves or maybe if they didn’t he’d find some maneuvering space with Ivan…Yes maybe he should encourage a very minor indiscretion and have Lord Ivan think it was something major…That foul grouping needs to be smashed…
His eyes turn to himself and the human skull in his hands; he turns it over and examines it for imperfections finally becoming satisfied with its quality. Quickly Baldwin bites into the flesh of his right hand and smears some of his powerful vitae onto the eye sockets and mouth of the skull, quickly and quietly speaking the morbid incantation Baldwin feels the power of death flowing through him and into the skull. A soft but sickly green glow appears in the eyes of the skull, quickly disappearing into the sockets and fading from view. The mouth clamps shut as the vitae flows into the hole, making the skull wear an ethereal and foul smile. Quickly Baldwin impales the skull onto an iron spike and places the spike behind a grave near the entrance of his haven.
A slow smile spreads over the face of Baldwin not a smile of joy; it has been years since he felt joy or elation, a smile of surety, of the knowledge that his future is set and in motion. The Tremere will love him and his sire will have his prize.
