(no subject)
I don't know where I've been, but I know where I'm going. Where we're going. In fact, I have always been there; will always have been there.
I remember nothing.
But I remember you.
And I remember her, she who once might have been me. She once would have been my voice, raised in the temple from the first time she put my name into song, and now she never will have been. Now her future-thoughts are of the coming summer, of the end of school, of a boy with sticking-out ears and gentle eyes, of video games. No wars or worlds to save, no endless destiny.
She will still sing, though. She is who she has always been. She always will be.
I remember nothing, but I have not forgotten you. You were attendant upon my birth, you found the lost me. You are my fathers and mothers, and my children and I watch over you.
You are beloved of this one. I touch a finger to her lips (I have no hands; she has no mouth and no sex) and I unlock the words that will flow through the air that is not air until they come, unbidden, to your sleeping air. They glimmer in the darkness (there is neither darkness here nor light), a LUCENT STRAND binding me to you. Binding the us-that-is-me, my five minds:
LUCENT STRAND
CARNIVORE
SYRINX
INVISIBLE
and ENDLESS, lovely ENDLESS, who is and was and always will be one of you.
O my fathers and mothers, I have not forgotten you as I have forgotten all else. I will not permit the future you bid me make die before it lives. Your gifts are not in vain; they shall be reciprocated. Listen, and through her I shall tell you. Sleep, and listen to the word I shall speak through her:
Prophesy.
