Freaky Friday - Cat and Kay
Apologies to
jholloway in advance for any abuse of his character....
"Night Peaches" Michael yelled as the car pulled away. Cat climbed into the shower and washed thinking about the key note lecture she was due to give the next day. She looked at the clock 3am, it was to much to hope for that Gen would let her sleep in. She crawled into bed, tired from a day of dealing with the New changes, working, patrolling and pack business. As she took one last look of the photo of Marcus next to the bed she wished that she could wake up and find out it had all just been a nightmare.
The sun was beginning to come through the window, but it was the scent that reached her sleepy mind first, the musky heady scent of a male in the bed, the weight of the engagement ring made her smile and she kept her eyes closed as she began to kiss the chest on which her head rested, grateful that it had just been a bad dream. She kissed her way to his sleepy lips and opened her eyes saying
"Morni....." The rest was lost to a scream as she dived off the bed into a wall that shouldn't be there. That was not Marcus. She recognised the face. London. Wolf-Blooded, Solicitor, J...J... J.... what was his name. He looked confused at her. She managed "Bad dream... Bathroom" before running from the room. She found the bathroom on the second try of a door and slammed it behind her. She looked in the mirror. Karei. Oh Mother. "Shit" She muttered. Ok what did she know about Kay, Polite, calm, rod up her arse, and apparently engaged to Jonah Wolfman. She eventually braved the flat again, Jonah looked concerned and she managed to lie about bad dreams enough to get him to leave, but not before she'd promised to look at the guest list again. Wedding plans. Not the best time to drop into someone elses life. Her Lecture. Her Child!!! She watched the clock till it was time for Gen to be at Nursery and Rang. Gen was there, Cat seemed disorganised but ok an the were sure she'd be joining the research assistant Cat was pretending to be any time now. She looked round for signs of a job she should be going to, apparently not, housework, nope OCD cleanliness and no children/ extra werewolves meant that it was spotless, even the garden was immaculate, what did this girl do with her days.....
She picked up the one thing she could think of doing, apparently the guest list was causing issues maybe she could at least help with that. She went through it with as much thought as possible, taking off troublemakers but leaving those she knew Kay would want around pausing at Xenaphon's name. once she'd taken a few off of it, at least to make it look like Kay was trying to compromise she wondered at the rest of the day. She looked at the day planner. The day before had included dress buying, likely hood being that Kay would pick a dress that someone else would prefer, just to keep the peace, maybe she could give her advice in a weird manner.
She finished selecting 5 dresses that suited Kay and then started to just wander aimlessly. Kay needed more to do with her day or maybe she needed less. She began to wonder if Gen had even noticed a difference, what if Kay managed her life better than she did? Her mind raced. 1pm, she should be giving a lecture now on ethnological basis for reconstruction of dead languages. Please don't fuck up my career, I'm only just getting things back to normal. As normal as my life will ever get. She wondered what it would be like to see her old friends and not have them hate her. To not see that look of disappointment in their eyes, or worse, indifference.
She cooked dinner waiting for Jonah to get back, maybe they could argue, he might leave, then she could leave a note, and if things didn't return to normal.., destroy the note and apologise herself. He was so damned reasonable, why did he have to be so nice she thought as she tried to start an argument. In the end she asked him to leave, she needed some alone time, just for the night. She sat and watched the Moon, and cried, Kay had it so good but she missed her child, and Jonah seemed lovely and deserved the person he loved, plus it would be selfish to try and stay here. Yes her life was rough at times, but it was still her life.
